Missouri State Waterski Team Takes Second at 2007 Great Plains Conference Tournament
Our Missouri State University Waterskiers proved that their 2nd place finish at the Hawkeye Ski Invitational was no fluke. Competing against 21 other teams this past weekend at the Great Plains Conference Tournament in Wilmington, IL, Missouri State took second. Their performance was good enough to secure them a spot in the Midwest Regional Tournament this coming weekend, in Decatur Illinois.
The team began in 2002 and has since risen through the ranks of the GPC finishing 5th in their conference and 9th at the Regional tournament in 2006. “We’ve been working really hard and I feel like this is the year we’ll make the top 5.”said team president Cole Kalkbrenner. If Missouri State does finish among the top 5 teams in the region, they will find themselves at the National Tournament in Zachary, LA for the first time. “Nationals has been the goal and I don’t think that anyone will settle for less. The team is really focused.” said team member Blake Hines.
With hopes of Nationals running high, there will be a huge financial burden placed on the students. Missouri State Waterski Team is a club team, and therefore receives only partial financial sponsorship from the University. Other partial sponsors include: Shull Family, and Skiers Warf Extreme in Osage Beach but this still leaves the students to cover the deficit. Our boys went down south of the Int nationals this year Andrew Dryhood got first in the pro division, and Kirby got forth! Matt got forth in the intermediate division. So congrats to the guys.
